Nevada's Golden Age of Gambling
on Oct. 11, 2012
This is a terrific book. The author tells so many stories about casinos in Las Vegas - about the Mob, Bugsy Siegel, Meyer Lansky, and a lot more. Moe tells about the building of the Flamingo, Sahara, El Cortez, Dunes, Hacienda, Stardust, Harrah's, Harold's Club, Cal Neva and plenty of others.
The writing is good, steady, and enjoyable. Nonfiction without feeling like you're reading a text book!
Stealing From Bandits

This is a fast-moving story about a guy who works in the surveillance room at a casino. He keeps a low profile, but one thing leads to another and he's out on his own.
There is a female lead and love interest, but mostly the story is centered on the one guy. The story is heavy into how he does his job, getting cameras ready and taking action when there are cheats in the casino. Pretty interesting.
The Roots of Reno

This is an amazing book. This history of the early saloons and casinos of Tonopah, Nevada was fascinating. The author's work is well-researched and great to read. He takes the story for the goldfields to Reno in the roaring twenties when the town was just beginning to grow as a gambling capital.
I loved the descriptions of the early casinos of Reno and Lake Tahoe from the mid 1900's. Great story!
