How do you approach cover design?
Yes, I'm one of those people who judges a book by the cover! Moreover, I hate when the cover has nothing to do with what the book is about. I've also seen a lot of self-published novels with the same cover design. All of these things factor into my approach to cover design.
When I was looking for images for my book cover, Gods Behaving Badly (Book One), I really didn't know what I wanted yet. Then, I saw the image of the two disintegrating beings and I thought, wow--what a powerful image.
My main character is pithy and socially awkward, but this persona is just a defense mechanism for dealing with a world she still doesn't quite understand. She was a once great being who is simply falling apart while trying to keep it together. I also asked my designer to add dreads to the figures because I wanted to represent the multi-ethnic details of my hero and heroine.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I LOVE the smell of books and the tactile pleasure that comes from fingering a page as I get ready to turn it. But, I also like that I can have as any books as I want without having my house overrun with books. So, I've gone over to the e-reading side and visit a real bookstore now and again for old time sakes.
