I have read all three books now and felt it was time to come back and add a review for each. I'll start with the first book.
There is no doubt that the book could use the finer editorial touches the more poular authors receive, but for a self-published first book - well done! It takes awhile to get used to the NZ references (especially from us Canadians!), but using a Kindle allows the reader to look up unfamiliar words.
Yes, the storyline was basic, but it was also thoughtful and certainly very detailed - perhaps a little overboard even for us "A" personality types. I did very much enjoy the premise and the characters. The next two books add to the character's backgrounds and development.
I would have enjoyed some more adversarial aspects in this book, but you get some rewards if you move on to books 2 & 3. Keep up the good work Wayne, I'm looking forward to the 4th book!
The next book in the Meddlers series is more of a novella/short story than a true novel - a shame really, as it could easily have been developed into a very good continuation from book one of the series. Unfortunately the same is true of book three. Perhaps the author will combine books two & three and book four to make a longer, more intracate work. It would certainly make it more enjoyable, and would allow for some movement between adventures - this is a time travel series!
Now to the book - another good read and a good start on the history of the time travellers. It's fun to have interesting storylines and characters explored in greater detail though, so more time on this would have added to the story.
But all is not constructive criticism here! I still very much appreciate the character development and the thrill of the adventure. It takes a creative mind to dream this stuff up and Mr. Watson is indeed creative in dreaming the challenges and soltions.
Book two may not completely satisfy the reader's appetite, but it does serve as an adequate appetizer for book three.
You know, I've read quite a few self published authors and consider Mr. Inlow's books to be quite well written - top 10% easily. Just some minor editing and proofreading and the books become mainstream favorites.
I think there is another series here or may two more. I'll wait patiently for the next ones. For new readers to the series, you will enjoy a unique story with interesting characters. I would have liked a little more depth to the characters, and hope the next books dig just a little deeper.
Overall, a good series, and I always looked forward to picking up my Kindle to see where the story was going to take me next.
