Phil Moore

Biography

Phil Moore is a freelance writer, contributor to professional journals, and reviewer for the Journal of The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition. With a Ph.D. in Educational Research and Psychology, and as a member of the American Psychological Association, he is currently employed as an institutional researcher specializing in determining success factors for college completion.

Phil grew up in central Pennsylvania in a town where his family has lived since his ancestors emigrated there from Germany over 150 years ago. He is currently studying the Pennsylvania German language and culture, thus balancing his heritage with his academic interests. This newfound interest in the Pennsylvania German culture, coupled with his love of dogs, his experiences living on a small Pennsylvania farm during the summers of his youth, and his interest in transitions in life, were the inspirations for Oatis and Family, his first book.

Phil is also an award-winning beer brewer, wine maker, and “beer gadget” inventor. While he and his wife no longer show their champion Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Barley, they still participate in dog agility trials with Barley’s daughter, Tilly, and enjoy traveling with the Corgis and the new addition to their family—Bob, a Tibetan Spaniel.
