Inspector Winwood Mysteries

A body dumped on waste land, the suspicious death of a taxi driver and a dirty tricks campaign run by a property development company are the mixture for an investigation by DI Winwood. He gets some welcome assisted from the local newspaper reporter. At the centre is the Green Man pub and a group of like minded people ranged against a corrupt Council.

The schoolteacher had a stump driven into his heart, the model was killed by a silver bullet and the banker swallowed poisoned garlic. But it was the fourth murder that made no sense. In some way all of them were connected to the Cricket Club. Everyone had a different theory from vampire slaying, Happy Familiies card games and even the letter ‘c’ but Winwood belived in none of these.

DS Tibble and DI Ruth Coleman are brought together on surveillance duty. Professionalism gives way to sexual atrraction. They are there to watch for a potential assassination attempt on the Prime Minister during the local by-election. DI Steve Winwood continues an enquiry into the murder of a reclusive rock star but it leads to a Government cover up and a thirty year old secret romance.

Whilst guests gathered for drinks at the Council offices someone beat the Council Archivist to death. Redbourne Brewery was negotiating with Beano Supermarkets over a lease for their new store but Redbourne’s Financial Director was then killed in similar circumstances to the archivist and his body found in the Rutter River. DI Winwood searched for the figures nesting inside a Russian doll.

The Murder Mystery Weekend at the Fleetwood Arms Hotel gets off to a disastrous start when a guest is murdered. The investigation is complicated as two guests had switched rooms. The guests all have solid alibis; they were asleep, maybe not in their own room! The sexual activities of the local theatre club are at the centre of the investigation but then another member is killed at a theme night.

Ben Davies a director of the Fordhamton Corinthian Football Club is found in the supporters bar with his throat cut. The directors were already in the boardroom. Davies’ death meant that the Club were liable for huge debts. An offer from Topper Supermarkets to purchase the ground meant that the remaining nine directors would benefit from the sale; and thereby each one becomes a prime suspect.

The body of Ray Radford is discovered buried beneath the town fountain. It had been there for thirty years. He was the subject of a manhunt for killing his partner John Kennedy when Winwood was first appointed detective. So, who killed Radford? The current investigation opens old wounds within the community and Winwood has to overcome long held suspicions of corruption amongst police and Council.

Unrequited love and the English way of life are the solution to the deaths and misfortunes that bedevil the Rutherford Arts Festival. This is not for the lovers of John Constable but more for those who find enlightenment in the Turner Prize. Where else would you find the worlds worst orchestra, a blank canvas and an installation comprised of Council rubbish as part of New Worlds Festival.

DCI Steve Winwood is brought out of retirement to locate a missing MI5 agent. The driver of a car burned in an explosion is thought to be the agent in question. A Chinese businessman reports a property scam fronted by the same man. Winwood encounters the mysterious Men In Black and finally discovers who and what the Underground represent and the terrible secret they are hiding.

When the most unpopular man in town is found dead in a hotel room there is no shortage of suspects. His lunch appointment is discovered to be an agent from MI5. Then a CIA agent is found dead outside his factory. Why are they both interested in the director of a small manufacturing company in a small English town? DI Winwood is once more plunged into the murky world of undercover operations.

An imaginary literary what-if mystery. At the opening of The Shed Community Theatre Lucien Wadsworth a Shakespearean lecturer is found dead in the gents toilet. Murder or accident? As DCI Winwood digs into Wadsworth’s past it seems he is not what he is. Is the Christopher Marlowe manuscript that he had discovered also a fraud? Winwood hits a wall of silence amongst the sponsors of The Shed.

Three days and three dead bodies. DCI Steve Winwood is under pressure from Chief Superintendent to find the connection. The Chief Constable hands Steve a new case which Steve thinks should be for the Fraud Squad. His Sergeant Miles Davis is happier with spreadsheets and together they uncover the fraud which solves the riddle set by the Chief Constable whilst Steve unmasks the culprit.
