Terry Bacon

Biography

Terry R. Bacon was an executive coach for thirty years and coached thousands of professionals and executives during that period. He co-founded Lore International Institute, a global executive development firm specializing in professional development, assessment, education, and coaching. Terry was CEO and President of that firm before it was acquired by Korn/Ferry International. He has an engineering degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a doctorate from The American University in Washington, D.C.
A prolific writer, he is the author or co-author of Selling to Major Accounts: Tools, Techniques, and Practical Solutions for the Sales Manager (AMACOM, 1999); Winning Behavior: What the Smartest, Most Successful Companies Do Differently (AMACOM, 2003); The Behavioral Advantage: What the Smartest, Most Successful Companies Do Differently to Win in the B2B Arena (AMACOM, 2004); What People Want: A Manager’s Guide to Building Relationships that Work (Davies-Black, 2006); Adaptive Coaching: The Art and Practice of a Client-Centered Approach to Performance Improvement, 2nd Edition (Nicholas Brealey, 2012); Powerful Proposals: How to Give Your Business the Winning Edge (AMACOM, 2005); The Elements of Power: Lessons o Leadership and Influence (AMACOM, 2011); Elements of Influence: The Art of Getting Others to Follow Your Lead (AMACOM, 2012); and Effective People Skills. He was also co-author of The Shipley Associate Style Guide and has written numerous other assessments (such as the Survey of Influence Effectiveness), study guides, manuals, workbooks, exercises, and white papers.
He created and operates three websites: www.terryrbacon.com, www.reflections.blog, and www.powerandinfluence.online. The latter provides self-assessments on sources of power and influence effectiveness and offers practical tips and instruction on building one’s sources of power and using positive influence techniques more effectively.
He lives in Colorado, where he has been an active member and leader of non-profit boards, including the Fort Lewis College Foundation, Durango PlayFest, Music in the Mountains, Durango STEAM Park, Friends of Fort Lewis College Theatre, Durango Arts Center, and Women’s Resource Center.
