Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
The first 10 years of my life I lived in a small town name Port Royal, which is on the island of Jamaica. Port Royal comes with a lot of history behind it. Pirates, bars, treasure, you name it this town had it all so I didn't have to look far for inspiration when it came to thinking up stories. We believe in a lot of things back in Jamaica and a lot of the folklore there influence my writing a lot.
I moved to Brooklyn when I was 10 years old and it was a huge difference culturally here. So to keep myself entertained I would make up stories, or what shows and cartoons that would give me a great lead on an adventure I could imagine.
Why children/middle school age books?
The reason I wanted to write for a younger audience is because in my heart I am still a kid. I don't watch Saturday morning cartoons like I used too, but my imagination is still as active as ever and I find myself thinking of all this stuff that I have to get on paper. That is how I came up with Adventures of Marco and Carla series. I wanted to tell the story of what goes on in my head and these characters that I came up with do something that I could never which is go on these adventures and not only tell the story, but also show the story to my readers.
