Smashwords Interview

What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
As of May 1, 2014, I have been marketing my books for one year. I am still very new to this whole "indie" book publishing world, but I love twitter. I have met an incredible number of great folks on the social site. I have made what I think will be some life-long friends. The authors there are helpful and the readers very engaging.

Farloft, my Dragon, has made friends on twitter as well. He tweets the last Friday of every month. You should take "Talking to a Dragon" off you bucket list and drop in to chat with Farloft. He loves making new friends.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in every state this side of the Mississippi. In the 62 years I have been alive, I have moved 34 times. When you move that often you learn to make friends quickly and you learn to write because you need to keep in touch with those friends you left behind. I also come from a very large family. I have two natural born brothers, but 23 foster and adopted brothers. Many of their personalities, exchanges and adventures have made food for my writing.

Smashwords book reviews by Theresa Snyder

  • The Lifestone Chronicles. Foundation of a Kings Legend on Aug. 05, 2014

This is a very imaginative and epic retelling of the ancient King Arthur tale. I was throughly intrigued by the twists and turns I had never heard of from my English teachers. The author explains his choices and resources at the end of the book, which I found very interesting. We Americans, who are not scholars, might not be up on all the deep history in this legend. The author is an Englishman and I think he knows from whence he speaks. He weaves a fine tale and I look forward to reading the next part of the adventure.
  • Vampiric Retirement The Vampire War Commences on Oct. 23, 2014

Vampiric 1. Story/Plot: 8 - Keeping up with all the twists & turns is a RUSH 2. Story-telling: 9 - Draws you in 3. Characters: 8 - Great characters, but longed for more dialogue 4. Structure: 7 - Mr. Stevens is dyslexic and there are housekeeping issues 5. Enjoyment: 8 - Over all a book worth reading Story/plot: This is a great concept and a well plotted book. Story-telling: The author is very detailed in his description of setting and the elements of war. I think men who like specifics on guns, cars and hand-to-hand combat would really get into this book. Characters: The characters are really varied, but I longed for more dialogue so I could hear their voices. Structure: The story itself is great and flows smoothly. Enjoyment: I did not have any trouble finishing this in spite of the housekeeping errors. It is a great story and a good foundation for a series. I give this a raw score of 40, which translates into a 4 star rating.
