Andrea Houtsch

Biography

Residing in northeastern Pennsylvania, Andrea “Wordsmith” Houtsch spends most of her time people-watching. This, in turn, becomes fodder for the varied ideas she has in aggregated stages of development. Primarily a writer of erotic fiction, Andrea enjoys exploring the dynamics of human relationships based on her observations and experiences and delivers stories that go beyond sex to the motivations and emotions that sculpt the intimate relationship leading to physical culmination, and beyond. Openly gay and married to her spouse of ten years, Andrea’s ideas span genres and know no boundaries, often centering around LBGT themes and characters.

When she’s not nose-deep in her writing Andrea is usually found nose-deep in a book, spending quality time with her family, or plugging away at a paid job that gives her plenty of opportunity for people-watching. If she’s not doing any of that she’s probably sleeping, the deep abyss of dreams churning up fodder for yet another story idea.

She's also been told many times that her work is akin to ‘peeping through the keyhole’, that it is ‘emotionally raw‘ and ‘utterly believable‘. These sentiments are pleasing, to be certain, but she leaves that up to you, the reader, to determine for yourself.

“There is no real ending. It’s just the place where you stop the story.” ~ Frank Herbert

Smashwords Interview

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a variety of places. My hometown is Hazleton, Pennsylvania but I also lived in Nevada and Florida as a child. I don't necessarily believe that the places I've lived have done much to influence my writing. More so I would say that the relationships throughout my childhood and life have served to be the greatest inspiration and influence. My life has been a gauntlet of tragedy and mishaps - a veritable crucible in forging the personality and talent that exists today. Writing and offering up characters and exploring their relationships is my way of sharing both the light and darkness contained within me.
When did you first start writing?
I discovered the joys of writing at age 9 when I wrote my first story for a school-wide project in which every child's story was printed and bound. The thrill of creating and naming characters, of using words to tell the stories in my head became an immediate and life-long addiction, if not my Purpose and calling. I was born to write!
