I should have been born on a Kansas plain, instead of which, I was born in the hills of Yorkshire many years ago. I am of Irish ancestry, and though my family emigrated in the early 20th century, I'm still proud of it, even if its pretty diluted by now.
I have a big fascination with history, which probably explains the time travel stories that I write. Being a flapper in the 20's would appeal to me no end, though I would miss the internet.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing again in 2000, the first time I'd written since I left school 26 years earlier! Looking back at them now, some of them are pretty awful, but I've improved a lot since then.
Equally, you could say I started writing these type of stories about 2009, a complete turn away from the robotisation stuff I mainly wrote before then. These are much more fun, it must be said.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book, a total homage to Louise Brooks, with many of the character names either borrowed from her film roles, with a doff of the cap to OMD, who were the ones who got me interested in her, with 'Pandoras Box' in 1991. Mainly the video, but I have pinched a couple of lines from the song for story titles, including the latest one of course.
Oh, and a cameo for a very dear friend in Vermont
