Smashwords Interview

What's the story behind your latest book?
The short story Sing a Mournful Melody is a nod to the old Gothic vampire movies of the '60s. Though I wasn't around when they were first released, I've caught them on television, from time to time. I was in college when I delved into the stories that inspired them, but the romance of those old horror tales never left me. When I saw the picture of the Graphophone that inspired the story, I thought it only logical to set Maribelle's story in the corresponding timeline and because I love to add the fantastic, was delighted when she brought the supernatural along with her.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I've been writing with an eye to publishing almost 20 years now, but I was always a little nervous about self-publishing. It wasn't until E-publishing became so accepted the last few years that I changed my mind. I sat down and worked out The Artist's Inheritance, formatted, edited it, and held my breath and hit publish. Now I'm hooked. ;)

  • Le Cirque De Magie on May 28, 2013

Le Cirque de Magie sets readers down in the 1920s alongside Ravi, a trapeze artist in a circus troupe in Sarasota, Florida. Ravi's no ordinary trapeze artist, he's really a supernatural being called a Suparna. During his troupe's run, a dwarf joins up, but Ravi senses something strange about her--something he doesn't like. When his beloved Alice is threatened, Ravi senses the dwarf is behind it. Can Ravi save his beloved? What more trouble will the dwarf cause before he can stop her? And what'll happen when Ravi's secret is exposed? You'll have to read to find out! Filled with intrigue, romance, and magic, along with authentic tidbits of the culture of the 1920s that created a unique and vivid story world, this is a delightful little tale that I think fantasy fans will enjoy.
  • Queen of The Hill on March 19, 2015

I thoroughly enjoyed QUEEN OF THE HILL. Grateful is a fun little witch, even if she exudes snark now and again. I also loved her familiar, Poe. What’s not to love about a raven who can share his wisdom, even if he needs a doggie door to get inside the witch’s house? Queen of the Hill continues Genevieve Jack’s wonderful Knight Games series, but worry not. If you have not delved into it before, I think you can start here with no problem. The series continues in Ms. Jack’s new release, MOTHER MAY I, so if you’d like to check the series out, now is the time.
  • Kira: The Yden Trilogy Prequel on Sep. 15, 2015

In KIRA, S.G. Rogers takes her readers back to the world of Yden, prior to teen wizard Jon Hansen’s arrival and into the tribal communities. Young Kira Szul’s sister is about to (she hopes) become betrothed to another tribe’s leader. Kira would rather not consider courting and betrothals, instead, she’s interested in adventure. And in finding a cure to help her friend, the wizard Dorsit, regain his powers. In search of both, she heads off across Yden but in the course of her journey, she happens upon Warlord Mandrel. A man who has allied himself with dangerous Cyclopes and a bloodthirsty wizard. Not knowing any of this, Kira herself falls into his trap when he poisons her with a dangerous love potion. Now, she must find the cure, not only for her friend, but herself, before she ends up married to the foul Mandrel, and plunging her family and their tribe into ruin. A must for any fantasy fan, KIRA presets an exciting novella-length prequel to Ms. Rogers’ delightful, magical Yden series and an unexpected glimpse at a favorite character’s background—or for me, anyway. As long as I’ve been following and a fan of the series, Kira has been one of my favorites characters. :) And I am sure she’ll become yours!
