  • Dark Relic: Vampires' Curse on July 20, 2011

I bet many other vampire romance readers would give this book a higher rating. This type of vampire story isn't my cup of tea. This book has a "discovery" story line; the main character doesn't know vampires exist until the middle of the book. And that really bugs me, personally. I like for everyone to be clear about their natures so you can get into the meat of the story. This book has a great plot that moves along nicely, centering on a relic that kills vampires. I don't know enough about the relic after reading the first book, so hopefully the author follows up with more details about the history of the cross in the next Libby Fox book. Libby is a fun heroine. She reminded me of myself, which is always nice in a POV character! She's a bit straight laced, but when hit with a big revelation, she holds up under the pressure. She's very moral. So is the hero, Adam. He is too human a vampire, in my opinion, but he is sexy. I hope both of them let down their hair a bit in the next book.
  • Red on Sep. 06, 2011

Kait Nolan's Red is a fast-paced roller-coaster ride of young adult paranormal fiction. There's romance, adventure, shape-shifting, an evil plot, and a super creepy villain you'd never expect. Nolan writes deep characters, full of just enough teenage angst, combined with backbones of steel. Elodie stays strong despite her unfortunate circumstances. She draws on seemingly unending courage despite her unconventional upbringing. And Sawyer? Let's just say this: I was a little ashamed of how sexy I found this youngster. He's dominant without being dominating, strong and resilient without needing to prove anything (besides to his father, the alpha). There's no sex in this book, but Elodie and Sawyer sizzle on the page together. And event after surprising event keeps you turning the page from the very beginning. Five stars!
  • Secrets of the Wolf on Oct. 22, 2011

The second book in the Libby Fox trilogy delivers on the promise developed in the first book. The book moves quickly from progress with the developing romance to the introduction of yet another hot male on Libby's hands, one who threatens to compete with Adam for alpha status in Libby's life. Libby continues to dive into perilous situations with half-cocked plans; her sheer tenacity kept me on her side, waiting to see what challenge was next around the corner. Secrets of the Wolf is a great sequel, and while there was closure, the ending left me wanting more. I know Libby does, too. So we'll have to see how she handles that in the third book.
  • Soul of a Vampire on Oct. 19, 2012

Walking the Dark Line Lauralynn Elliott sure knows how to bring the creep factor in her novels. Soul of a Vampire starts on the melancholy ground of a devout Christian who is turned into a vampire. Even as he mourns the loss of his soul, he finds there is a way to retrieve it -- with the help of a specialist in paranormal artifacts. Nikolas is in dangerous territory; he wants to keep his morality, but he is slipping day by day. And when he slips...it's darker than I expected from beginning with a Christian vampire. Right and wrong are very important to Nikolas the man, and Elliott does a good job exploring how that slips away as he turns into a monster. There's definite romance involved, and without Tessa there's no way Nik can get what he wants. But Tessa is a huge temptation for Nik, and as she helps him, she's also pushing him further into the darkness.
