The third-graders at Coyote Run Elementary thought the teacher's lounge is where teachers eat candy out of vending machines, watch TV and play video games. They didn't expect it to be a tropical island where they are kidnapped by pirates, a circus where they learn the flying trapeze, or a crime scene where they solve a jewelry heist.

This is a fun middle grade read. The premise is creative, and Priss is a strong character with an authentic voice. The cliffhanger at the end is a good twist leading into the next book.

"Stealing Mercy" has a creative, intriguing story premise and the beginning captured and held my attention. I enjoyed reading the tale unfold from two different points of view, both Mercy and Trent. However, I didn't think the present-day story was necessary; Mercy's story held up nicely on its own. I was glad Mercy and Trent found their happy ending, but felt it was a little abrupt (and whatever happened to the missing girls?) On a side note, I downloaded the kindle file and there were a large number of missing words throughout the text. Unfortunately, it was very distracting to read. I'm assuming it was a result of formatting and not editorial errors. Overall, I enjoyed "Stealing Mercy" and even read the excerpt attached for "The Ghost of a Chance" which also captured my attention (great job on these opening chapters!)
