Joel P. Bowman

Biography

Joel is a Professor Emeritus, Department of Business Information Systems, Haworth College of Business, Western Michigan University. He taught business communication skills at the university level for more than 30 years. He is the author or co-author of 14 books and workbooks and numerous articles in refereed journals and is the principal author of "Healing with Language: Your Key to Effective Mind-Body Communication."

Joel has conducted hundreds of workshops and seminars and has made both radio and television appearances.

He is a Licensed Master Practitioner and Trainer of Neurolinguistic Programming(NLP) through Richard Bandler and the Society of NLP, and trainer of hypnotherapy through the American Board of Hypnotherapy (ABH). He is a Reiki Master/Teacher, and co-founder of Subtle Communication Systems, providing transformational audios, books, and trainings. He also holds the rank of San Dan in Uechi-Ryu Okinawan Karate.

As a veteran of the Vietnam War, Joel has a strong sense of identification with those who have served in the military in Iraq and Afghanistan.

For those who have served and have either Mild Traumatic Brain Injury or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of that service, Joel will be glad to help you diminish or eliminate the feelings of stress, anxiety, and sometimes anger associated with PTSD. Joel will be glad to meet with you—individually or in groups—without charge. For those concerned about the stigma of “psychological” treatment, the work can be done anonymously with no official record keeping.

The NLP techniques Joel will employ can be done as “secret therapy,” so you will not need to say anything about the situations or events that have contributed to your feelings of stress and anxiety. Your memories can be separated from any negative feelings associated with them without your having to say what those memories might have been.

To make arrangements to see Joel, send him a quick message. If meeting in Kalamazoo, Michigan, would be inconvenient, some of the proven NLP techniques can be done effectively by video conferencing or email.

Joel's therapeutic experience includes direct client interventions in the following areas:
• Behavior modification.
• Smoking cessation.
• Elimination of claustrophobia and other phobias, such as fear of heights, anxiety, and white coat syndrome.
• Relief of physical pain, such as shoulder or hip pain,
• Relief of emotional pain and psychological distress, such as fear of driving following an automobile accident.
• Improvement for sufferers of post-traumatic stress disorder.
• Imagine Healing process for visualization for healing.

Here's a brief video of a radio interview covering my work with veterans who have PTSD. The NLP technique, called "The Fast Phobia Cure," was originally developed by Richard Bandler. See "Using Your Brain for a Change," (pp. 43-46).
