What's the story behind your latest books?
The Coral Cottage is my latest beach read, and it just earned a spot on the USA Today Bestseller list! The story revolves around Marina Moore, who is forty-five and having to remake her life--along with her sisters. They land at their eccentric grandmother Ginger's beach house, and fun and romance ensue as they overcome challenges and find themselves. This is a sweet women's fiction series in the style of Mary Kay Andrews and Elin Hilderbrand.
In the Summer Beach Inn series, I have a new holiday addition, Christmas at the Seabreeze Inn. I always loved being on the ocean. In college, I sailed on Semester at Sea, and I've lived near beaches in Southern California and Boston. I love being near the ocean, from Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard to Malibu and San Diego, to Sydney harbor and the shores of the Mediterranean. Far different coastlines, of course, but the smell of the sea and the roar of the waves always inspire me. I've worked out countless storylines walking on the beach. By setting the Bay family on a beach near Del Mar, California, I'll have plenty of reasons to stay near the beach.
On the 20th-century historical romance side, my love of chocolate inspired my latest book, The Chocolatier--a 1950s saga set in gorgeous Amalfi, Italy--and readers will often find references to chocolate, wine, and perfume throughout my books.
What are you working on next?
My beach reads have been so popular that readers have asked for more. The Summer Beach Inn series is a contemporary women's fiction series about two sisters and is set in a small beachside village on the California coast, and I have a new Christmas addition to this series. The new Coral Cottage is set in the same little beach town, and there is character crossover between the series. If you want to start at the beginning, read Seabreeze Inn, but you can also begin with the Coral Cottage (no spoilers).
In the historical category, I just completed Hepburn's Necklace, which is set in 1950s Lake Como and Rome, Italy and begins on the set of Roman Holiday, which starred Audrey Hepburn. This is a dual timeline novel, and I think fans of the film will enjoy this saga. The Chocolatier is also new and is set in the 1950s in San Francisco and Amalfi, Italy. The story revolves around a widowed chocolatiere as she tries to find her husband's family in Italy--and the repercussions that occur when she does. If you like 20th-century historical novels, read The Winemakers, my historical novel set in Napa and Montalcino, Italy, or Scent of Triumph, a WWII saga about a French perfumer.
I love these recent books and hope you will, too! Thanks for reading.
