Karen Elizabeth Brown

Biography

Born in Southern California, I migrated to Southern Oregon in 1974 and have enjoyed living among the trees and mountains since then.
My passion for writing was on hold until a few years ago, when my daughter bought me a computer. It was after this that I transferred my stories down from the scratchings on paper to a sensible form.

Smashwords Interview

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the outer skirts of Los Angeles. We moved around a lot, until we settled in the Sunland/Tujunga area. I learned to accept new circumstances and situations, but always kept a dream world in my mind. I still have some of those worlds in little notebooks where I jotted down my feelings.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing in high school. My story about a mysterious black box got published in a school compilation and I was hooked. Although I took a hiatus to have my children, I wrote poetry and short stories in my notebooks, even when I was working as a registered nurse.

  • Stopover at the Backworlds' Edge on July 26, 2012

Stopover at the Backworlds' Edge was an exciting race through Craze's world at Pardeep Station. Without giving away the ending, I know you'll have a spine tingling adventure filled with love, hate and betrayal. I couldn't wait to read it and now I can't wait for the next one to come out. Author M. Pax has a winner here! It's definitely a great read!
  • Tales of the Lorekeepers, Tome 1: Rise of the Red Dragon on July 26, 2012

Anyone who enjoys fantasy will enjoy Rise of the Red Dragon. It has all the elements of a good fantasy: magic, dragons, sword fighting and more. I especially liked Martin's handling of the time travel, or is it? The world he goes to plays out these legends over and over again. The characters in this book are well rounded and Samuel, the main character, has a good depth to him. We watch him change and mature throughout the book. I highly recommend this book and am waiting for the next one to come out.
  • Beyond the Edge on Nov. 10, 2013

Beyond the Edge, Book 4 of the Backworlds Series has continued to delight and surprise me, all at once. Not having a lot of time to read, I appreciate a well written book that will continue to tantalize me with not only entertainment, but those sudden jolts of realizations through her characters that are so unique. Keep it up, M. Pax! I hope there's a number 5 out there!
  • Racing Dragons on Nov. 30, 2013

Plan on being thrust into a world of dragons and adventure, where what can go wrong, does. Todd Burnett presents us with almost non-stop action that is buffered with his own brand of humor. The only downside for me was some of the character's language. It was hard to read and understand, so distracted from the story. Other than that, a great read!
