Lari Smythe

Biography

Lari enjoys many forms of creative expression. Lari's work in computer graphics challenged the limits of technology and yielded the very first computer animation. During that time, Lari continued to work with conventional media, oil, acrylic, and her favorite pastels. Then, in 2000, Lari channeled her artistic talent into writing.
Lari's first two novels, Angel and the sequel Survivors, are historical in nature. The stories revolve around World War II and the struggles of a young woman coming of age during that horrific time in history. Although fiction, the stories are historically accurate in detail. As of 2014, Lari has written seven novels that span the genres of Historical Romance, Romantic Adventure and Paranormal Teen Romance.
Many authors consider writing a craft, but Lari firmly believes that writing is a form of art. While technique and style can be learned, nothing sets a writer apart more than artistic inspiration. For Lari, writing is a chance to bring an idea to life, to live in the moment, and she strives to bring the same enjoyment to her readers.

Smashwords Interview

How are you finishing out 2014?
First and foremost, I want to thank all of you who left a review for any of my work. Your kind and encouraging words mean the world to me. THANK YOU!

I wanted to let everyone know that I entered two script proposals to the Twilight New Voices challenge. Now we wait which is driving me crazy. I know it is a long shot, but how cool would it be to actually write a screen play? Well, we have to wait until January 5, 2015 for the selections. I have my fingers, and toes, crossed.

For Cyber Monday, I have reduced the price of Perpetual Motion to just $0.99! Don't miss out on this romantic thriller set in the college years. You don't want to miss Eddie & Sarah's rocky road to a steamy relationship. This one is Adult rated. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas Season!

Rumors have been swirling about Stephanie Meyer reading Southern Exposure. What do you think, would it make a great movie? Check out her Fickle Fish Films website and let her know what you think. Southern Exposure does not fit the Twilight New Voices format, so maybe there is something more to her reading the book. Who knows?

I am still on a short break from writing, refueling the creative juices you might say. I had hoped to get going again in November with the National Novel Writing Contest (NANOWRIMO), but that isn't going to happen this year. If you write, give NANO a try, it can be a lot of fun and very creatively stimulating. In the meantime, I am painting again, another great outlet that builds creativity.

My next project is still up in the air. I have a new teen vampire story flitting around in my head, the second and final book of the Perpetual Motion series, and that elusive fourth book in the Southern Exposure Saga. For you fans of Southern Exposure, I am leaning toward writing another book. If I do, it will be titled, With This Kiss. Yes, Izzy and Jason haven't left me yet and I've had dreams of some beautiful scenes & dialogue. So, all I can say, is keep your fingers crossed and if you haven't yet made your voice heard, leave a review to encourage my decision in that direction, or just post on my Facebook page if you prefer.

For you paperback lovers, the entire Southern Exposure Saga is now available in print at LuLu.com. The back covers have pictures from the Boonsboro area, Jason & Izzy's tree down by the river and a sunset from the Faulkner Mansion in Georgia. Just do a search on the LuLu site for Lari Smythe. Perpetual Motion is also now available in paperback. The books would make great holiday gifts for those readers on your shopping list.
What style do you write in?
I didn't even know this existed until I completed the 2013 NANOWRIMO challenge. One of the perks for 'winning' was a Style Review. According to that review, my writing is classified as an EBDK. So what does that mean, you ask?
(E)xpressive: your book contains more dialog between two or more characters than most books.
(B)reezy: Your language tends to be easier to read and more straightforward than average.
(D)escriptive: Your book is very descriptive, more so than the average book.
(K)inetic: Your book contains more physical motion than most books.
To sum it up, an EBDK is most prevalent in fiction, primarily in the Mystery, Thriller, Romance spectrum. These works place a premium on plot and character development, and engage readers with an easy use of dialogue. They tend to use rich descriptive passages, and their text is welcoming and easy to consume. They strive to engage the reader early, and keep their characters active and moving.
So, here are four notable EDBKs - Sephenie Meyer, Twilight - Stephen King, Under The Dome - John Grisham, The Associate - Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451
So, there you have it. If you like an engaging, easy read, with lots of action and dialogue give my work a look.
