Lari Smythe

Some people are born to be writers, they just know it, others have to discover the writer inside them. I fall into the latter category. I began writing in 2000 after waking from a vivid dream thinking, 'I'm supposed to write this.' My family had a good laugh when I told them I was going to write a book, but by the middle of 2003 I had written a full length Historical Romance. I loved the art of writing and spent the next several years with two more full length manuscripts, refining the craft. While I don't believe a writer can ever say they've arrived, I do feel that my art has reached a level where I am proud to share it. I enjoy living in the moment of each story as it unfolds and hope that you find as much enjoyment reading my stories as I do writing them.

Smashwords Interview

What's new? And... a contest for you, the reader.
On Tuesday, September 16, 2014, afternoonish EST I will be releasing Till Death Do Us Part, the third and maybe final book in the Southern Exposure Saga. I can't wait to release this new book, it is by far, my best work. And what about that surprise I mentioned? Well, I am what writers call a panster, I write by the seat of my pants. In other words, I set a story in motion and let the characters tell me what they want to do. In the Case of Till Death Do Us Part, the characters wrote a different ending than I had in mind. I love their ending, its beautiful & sad & beautiful. Anyway, you get to decide if there will be a fourth book to the Southern Exposure Saga, and I'm really hoping you will. Here's how, write a review here, or where ever you download the books and tell me if you want to know how I would have ended the story. I'm also going to post a picture of the cover on my Facebook page and you can comment with a yes or no, or even a review. At the end of October, I'll tally up the responses and make a decision on book four. I'll post the answer here and on my Facebook page. Until then, I know you're going to enjoy Till Death Do Us Part.

For those of you who like to hold a book in your hands, turn the pages and smell the paper, don't forget all my books are available in a 6x9 paperback format at Did you leave a review? I would really appreciate it if you would take a minute and leave a review for any of my work that you have read. It means so much to me to know how I'm doing. Thanks!
What style do you write in?
I didn't even know this existed until I completed the 2013 NANOWRIMO challenge. One of the perks for 'winning' was a Style Review. According to that review, my writing is classified as an EBDK. So what does that mean, you ask?
(E)xpressive: your book contains more dialog between two or more characters than most books.
(B)reezy: Your language tends to be easier to read and more straightforward than average.
(D)escriptive: Your book is very descriptive, more so than the average book.
(K)inetic: Your book contains more physical motion than most books.
To sum it up, an EBDK is most prevalent in fiction, primarily in the Mystery, Thriller, Romance spectrum. These works place a premium on plot and character development, and engage readers with an easy use of dialogue. They tend to use rich descriptive passages, and their text is welcoming and easy to consume. They strive to engage the reader early, and keep their characters active and moving.
So, here are four notable EDBKs - Sephenie Meyer, Twilight - Stephen King, Under The Dome - John Grisham, The Associate - Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451
So, there you have it. If you like an engaging, easy read, with lots of action and dialogue give my work a look.
