Reviews of The Pirate

Jack Turner is The Pirate. He's a former LA skate punk turned Coast Guard deckhand. He's a loveable knucklehead with a sordid past, but he's trying to get on the straight and narrow. As a teenager growing up in Los Angeles, he was arrested for stealing a car, but a lenient judge allowed him to avoid probation if he agreed to join the Coast Guard.

Drugs seized from smugglers falls into the hands of a Coast Guard sailor and ends up back on the mean streets of Miami. This story plays around with this situation and adds humor, crime and friendship to create a good read.

This edgy story is filled with crime, adventure and a simmering romance. Totally enjoyed the originality, but then I read part 2 and enjoyed it even more.

Exciting thriller. Bonus points for the young Coast Guard sailor as main character. Plus, I love the setting in Key West.

Lots of praise for this story. It starts with a bang. I was hooked right away. The main character is a sailor who you love to hate and hate to love. He's the kind of conflicted young man who can carry a story because you keep getting to know him better. Almost every page had something satisfying, with some really nice writing, shocks, humor and surprises.

This story turns everything you ever thought about law enforcement upside down. Totally believable but probably not for those who like their good guys good and their bad guys bad. At one point or another I was hating the main character but after a while I started liking him and now it doesn't matter. I already read part 2 but just go around to reviewing part 1.

This author has a unique way of telling a story. The style is conversational, and it draws you in. This is great story-telling. And all of his writing is sea stories which is unusual, considering nobody writes sea stories any more. Would make a good movie, for certain.

I read this in one shot - could not put it down. One page had me shocked and the next made me laugh. I can't decide if I like or hate the main character, but I will read the next part when it comes out. Taking off one star for a couple of choppy cuts between scenes.
