What is your writing process?
I find that I tend to write well in a short story/essay format. Blogging is ideal for that which I try to do every Friday or at least on the weekend to give people time to read it in their leisure. To write "How to Bicycle to Work - A Guide for Women," I wrote an outline of what I wanted to cover. Many women have approached me with the same questions over the years. I took me awhile to come up with a solution to all of my questions regarding how to choose a good bicycle, how to bicycle in a skirt/dress, in heels, in the rain etc. When I figured it all out over the course of a year, it was much easier for me. The writing process was quite easy for me in this regard because it was all of my own knowledge accumulated over a few years.
I went away for a few weekends on my own to write the first and second drafts of the book. My husband looked after the kids and they had their own adventures by bicycle together.
Having kids now means there is no time for procrastination anymore. Also, I have thoughts during the day about how a particular paragraph or blog will start. I tend to write it down if I have a moment or I'll repeat it to myself mentally throughout the day. Reviewing my previous work is always iterative. I find that I can improve my work by giving it a little time. Sometimes even 15 minutes is enough time to re-write/edit to something better.
How do you approach cover design?
I have a few favourite photos of me on the bicycle that I have used on my social media. I engaged ebooklaunch.com to help me design the cover. They had been recommended by the course instructor of an ebook publishing course that I took in the winter of 2015.
