Robert Friedrich

Biography

Robert Friedrich, originally born in Slovakia, started his writing career in Egypt, where he has been living since his 13th Birthday. He always had a vivid imagination, but the courage to show it to the world came much later. It was't easy, and took some pain, guts and ton of misfortune to arrive to this point. After a time of aversion and a path of unexpected circumstances he harnessed everything within him and stepped up to do things which he really wanted, liked and enjoyed.

He is writing in a different range of formats, from lyrics, flash stories, and short stories and Novellas. Even though the horror genre, which is about the long lasting fight between good and evil, Robert took it to an entirely new level. Adding many psychological characteristics, open ends, confusing twists and new settings. All of which slowly developed as a new paradigm Sci-fi/Horror/Drama; enclosing also urgent issues and happenings within the life of individuals as well as humankind.
His approach can surely change the perspective of readers, not only widen but also illuminate the possibilities and ways. Illuminate them with Darkness unlike found in any other Fiction genre.

Besides writing, Robert also enjoys metal music, movies, and games. He builds his encyclopedic information bank in this reference and uses his experiences from a wide range of activities which he had to go through; multicultural behavior, stress control, diving, translations, marketing, hotel management etc. Robert also creates his own covers and trailers. He speaks English, German and a bit of Arabic, besides his native language Slovak.

Smashwords Interview

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Well even though I was born in Eastern Europe where I lived till I was 13, I lived the rest in Egypt. To that I would say that the influence was huge in general, its a completely different way of life here. Everything from the mentality of the people till the taste in food is different, so adapting was quite harder than I had first thought. I would say patience is one of the main things this place taught me, besides figuring out who I truly am. I learned many harsh life lessons here and found myself here. My rebellious nature only thrived here, and it is here where I learned to fight for what I want and to stay the way I am, even if that means rejection from society among other things. I shall remain the way I am, and nobody will ever change that.
When did you first start writing?
That would be around 2005, when I started with my summary writings. I had many ideas and all of these I summarized and penned down into lists. One list per story, nothing of this was ever more than a list of ideas and events taking place, and half of the ideas turned out really bad anyways. For the years that followed I kept evolving each and every story beyond its original value, perfecting them as I went along. There were so many changes, from old ideas new were born, while others were changed beyond what they were at first. It took till 2013 for the first story I chose to be completed, thus "The Darkness Within" was both born and released. Releasing that opened the floodgates, hundreds of new and old ideas resurfaced and more are born the more I write. This resulted now in my Anthology series Enlightened by Darkness among my other works. And there is so much more to come.

  • Nonsense on July 20, 2013

The description says it all, humorous ramblings literally at times I got confused from laughter and the ramblings. I would say this is a good read when you need to turn off after a hard day at work or when you need to scratch that urge for ridiculousness.
  • Ready and... Action!! on July 20, 2013

  • Driving the Demon on July 24, 2013

I'll be honest here, at first I wasn't expecting much from this book. The only thing that was striking to me was the title, but this book really surprised me. First, its written from a First Person point of view, and that is not one of the easiest ways to write. Not many pull it off in a short story let alone a whole book, but Lorca delivers that. The story was fun, exciting, gripping and more. Not what I would normally expect from a Young Adult book. The protagonist Caid is interesting and you will enjoy reading his journey in Driving the Demon. Highly Recommended Read!
