Smashwords Interview

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story I ever wrote, I haven't a clue, but I know that my mum has my old exercise books from school in the attic and they'll be in their somewhere. I did spend an awful lot of my single digit years writing stories about horses that could talk and people that swam with killer whales.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't remember the first story that I ever read but I do know that when I was in primary school I used to get books out of the little library there and repeatedly would read the Saddle Club books by Bonnie Bryant and a book called the Silver Sword which was set in war torn Poland. I read it cover to cover about twelve times in one year. It really helped me develop my love of reading and gave me an appreciation of how an author can capture the attention of their readers.

Nicolette Mace: The Raven Siren
Nicolette Mace: the Raven Siren is a book series by author C.S. Woolley. Written in the first person, this modern twist on the private detective pulp novel brings a refreshing take on the film noir world. Nicolette Mace is the private detective known as the Raven Siren and the eponymous heroine of the five books that come together to create the main narrative of the series. There is also a sub set of books within the Nicolette Mace: the Raven Siren series that come under the title of Filling the Afterlife from the Underworld. These books are shorter tales that are written to fill in the gaps between the stories in the main five novels and round out the universe that C.S. Woolley has created. Some of the volumes follow cases that the Raven Siren has taken on whilst others are comprised of shorter thoughts and exploits from the day-to-day life of the female private investigator.
The Children of Snotingas
Step back in time to the age of King Penda, when the kingdom of Mercia was born. Life in Anglo-Saxon England is far from fair. There are strict classes that all people fall into. At the top there are the kings, then the thanes. After the thanes come the warriors, then the ceorls, and at the very bottom are the slaves. Women are not equal to men; and then there are the prisoners.

The Chronicles of Celadmore
The Chronicles of Celadmore is a fantasy series based in a fictional realm, written by C.S. Woolley. The Chronicles of Celadmore fall into the epic fantasy end of the fantasy genre with some influencing elements of gothic fiction and gritty realism that combine to create a fantasy series that is for those who like fantasy and those who don’t. Some of the more fantastical elements of magic and mythical beasts are missing from the series which makes them accessible to those who normally avoid the fantasy genre. The realm of Celadmore is one that is fully formed with lots of different kingdoms that each have their own cultures, languages and religions. They also have their own histories, intrigues and relationships with other kingdoms and there is even a coalition of Free Cities that do not bend the knee to any monarch. The Chronicles of Celadmore follow the royal line of Anagura and Queteria, the founders of the tribal people known as the Order. There are also plans for a spin off series of novels under the series title The Dragonian Wars.

  • Pilots On Food Stamps --An Inside Look At Why Your Flight Was Cancelled on Oct. 09, 2014

With flights around the world becoming cheaper and cheaper in the back of our minds we all know that costs are having to be cut somewhere along the line but the idea that pilots get paid wages that are so low they need food stamps doesn’t really permeate through when it comes to booking a bargain flight. This book is a brilliant indictment that really highlights the problems and issues that are being faced by pilots today. From the costs of going to pilot school to the low wages that pilots are offered, the modern day reality of working as a pilot is a far flung thing from the glory days of pilots being idolised. This book is a frightening read, but an important one, highlighting the issues and conditions that bubble under the surface of the air industry away from the scrutiny of the public eye. From the aircrash outside of Buffalo NY to the misery that is endured by pilots saddled with the debts of pilot school and a shocking low income that they have to survive on. Some of the most shocking discoveries that I made when this book included the fact that pilots are being paid for flight time which makes it very hard for some pilots to make ends meet and how many planes are shared by airlines, being rebranded for different flights. For many the idea that this can be going on right under our noses in an industry that has so many restrictions when it comes to security at airports and what you are allowed to carry when you fly. The most important thing to take away from this book is not the sad fact of how much pilots earn but what can be done to help improve this situation for the pilots and the passengers on airlines.
