Growing up in Colorado, Kelly used writing as an outlet, though as an adult, it began to take on therapeutic role. Married and divorced by the age of 23, Kelly began writing again to make light of such a difficult time and to reach out to other young women who like to learn lessons the hard way. Blogs eventually turned into the idea of a memoir, though Kelly wasn't sure how to wrap up her story. It was a tarot reader who explained that she had to live it first, and so Kelly quit her job, sold her stuff, and set off for adventure in Costa Rica.
