Conrad Franco, Jr

Biography

Book Enthusiast by blood. Poet by passion. Writer by heart.

Conrad Franco, Jr. is a Filipino author and a graduate of Bachelor of Arts in English. He is passionate in reading and writing poetry and prose on a number of genres. In college, he got a chance to read, watch, dramatize, reflect, critique and write
different literary pieces. This time, he wanted to share his very own literary works through his books.

A Book Enthusiast.
The blood of being a prolific reader (and a passionate reviewer) barely runs in his veins. Aside from physical books, it is also challenging for him to read ebooks or listen to audiobooks. It is a pleasure for him to review books he has enjoyed reading or listening to contribute to the self-publishing community.

A Poet.
He loves playing with words in rhythm and rhyme and expressing his thoughts in meaningful lines. Thus, his passion for poetry is depicted in his poems in an acrostic, alliteration, alliterostic (his own coined word which is a combination of alliteration and acrostic), couplet, free verse, haiku and rhyme.

A Writer.
It is always his desire to express his heart in written words. His appetite for writing had brought him to publish eight books in one year (July 27, 2017 to July 27, 2018) for both fiction and non-fiction. The number will definitely grow soon as he won't stop doing his passion. His books are available in digital format (and print version soon) in online stores worldwide.

Smashwords Interview

Mark: Hi Conrad, welcome to the "Smashwords Interview". So, to start off, can you tell us your story as an indie author?
Conrad: Thanks, Mark. It's an honor to have me on board. I think my story started when I was young.

(Becoming a writer). I can say that while I love reading, writing has been always my passion. Back on my elementary days, we were told to write a simple composition about our favorite pet, summer vacation, or any memorable experience. That's how I recall the beginning of my world in the written words.

(Becoming a poet). In high school, I learned about writing poems. Though I was new to the genre, still I was able to write my own poem. Later, I wrote more poems, especially during college. It was then in college that I learned to write acrostic and other types of poetry. Usually, my themes are about family, friendship, fascination, frustration and faith.

(Becoming a blogger). In 2013, I was convinced to join an MLM program which taught me the fundamentals and secrets of internet marketing. Through this I learned basic HTML coding for blogs, making a squeeze page, email lists and stuffs that online marketers do. It was then the start of my content writing online but unfortunately, I was not able to focus on this opportunity as I have to prioritize my corporate job then.

(Becoming an indie author). In 2016, I have written a manuscript that was supposedly for my new blog but when I learned about Smashwords last March 2017, I was inspired by the story and the purpose of Smashwords. So, I decided to make it rather as an ebook.
Mark: What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Conrad: My family is the real reason to live life each day and I'm inspired to read, write and share what I know.

Smashwords book reviews by Conrad Franco, Jr

  • Faith on June 01, 2017

The story is very uplifting. It depicts how strong a person is even in the darkest moment of his life. A tragedy may be an obstruction to see the light (success), but when he holds on to the promise of hope (being trustful), he can survive and surpass the struggles and challenges in life. With faith in our hearts, hope will manifest in our lives. God's promise on Jeremiah 29:11 says "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope." - NKJV 001.20170601

  • Buried Alive on Nov. 19, 2017

This could be the exact feeling when you are..."Buried Alive". But this could also be based on sleep paralysis? An indication why I say so are the lines "There is a weight on your chest", "shallow breath..." "You yell louder and louder but you can’t hear any sound". If you're unfamiliar with this phenomenon, just search on the Internet. Unusual but unique story. Keep writing though. 010.20171119

100 Haiku by Prakash Hegade "a hundred haiku told by Prakash Hegade every line is great" Hooray for your haikus. I just loved numbers 013, 059 and 079. No. 013 always build a bridge, for every type of water, life is to move on. No. 059 fiction or real life, you will see that pain and gain, rhyme for a reason. No. 079 be dry or barren, be a pond or an ocean, it starts from a drop. #ebookreview 018.20180106

Mga Tula sa Baul by Jay Pascual Life in Manila is well illustrated through this poetic art and it is sad to know about those issues that need to be resolved or given with much attention like traffic, pollution, poverty, etc. Fearless, firm and fierce expression. • Poor Lost Souls on Jan. 24, 2018

Poor Lost Souls by Lex Williams Mysterious and suspenseful. The flow of the story is intriguing but interesting. Nice ending. It can also be called as "Four Lost Souls" as the four characters did not know where they are. It seems that it was based on a sleep paralysis experience or just a mere dream? Totality, the story is extremely enjoyable. On the other hand, it told us a lesson that while we still have time on Earth for our loved ones, we should show our love, their worth and give our time to them so that we will not regret in the end. #ebookreview 023.20180125
  • Burden to Bear on Feb. 26, 2018

Burden to Bear is a romance story written by David Manoa (V2.6). The story started with Christian in the police station and came with his reminiscences. Christian Cloud was not successful with his past relationship to Samantha Jones. As one way of moving on, he focused his time in his new gym business, the Cloud Fitness. He happened to meet Nikki Chalmers, a call center employee who had a broken relationship with Robert Stanford. Nikki was employed as a receptionist in the gym after her five years of working from the agency. They have known then each other. Gradually, they fell in love with each other. Samantha Jones who cheated Christian with Robert will soon be married to Robert who cheated Nikki with her but she wanted Christian to be unhappy. She sent Nikki a "s** video" of her and Christian to destroy the relationship of Nikki to Christian. Nikki felt upset with what she discovered. Christian wanted Nikki to know the truth about the video. It was an edited video. Carried by his anger, he had choked Samantha to let Nikki know the truth and must come out from Samantha. Because of this commotion, Dom Marino the gym trainor of Samantha hit Christian with steel bar in the forehead. Christian was brought then to the police station. When Nikki saw the real video and knew that she was the only one in Christian's heart, she headed to the police station and bailed for Christian. In the end, true love wins with Christian and Nikki. The story was told in a third person point of view but what made it more interesting was the twist of telling the story in the first person point of view. As you read the story, you will be placed in different heights of emotions like feeling the sympathy to the protagonist and aggravation to the antagonist. It was indeed wonderfully written. 025.20180227
  • The Well-Planned Robbery on March 19, 2018

The Well-planned Robbery by Darryl Matter Well-planned story. Unpredictable plot. I thought it would be a suspense-crime theme story but I was wrong. It surprised readers with the creepy creature in the end-part. Nice one. 026.20180320
  • Journey To Easter: 19 days on March 29, 2018

Journey to Easter: 19 Days by Tracy Delong I think it needs slight improvement in terms of formatting and editing. Some images were not properly put in place. Some texts were not properly arranged. Author name must be present in the ebook. Also, the Bible source must be included in the verses quoted in this ebook. Nevertheless, the message was fine, timeless and so timely in the observance of the Lenten Season. Keep writing. 027.20180330

  • Brief Introduction to a New Way of Exercising the Mind: Gymnastics for the Brain on July 26, 2018

Brief Introduction to a New Way of Exercising the Mind by Eduardo Newton Very creative. But I'm a bit confused about how it was written into leetspeak where I found some errors in the spelling like "the" (73h - should be written as 7h3), "computer" (b10x0r - how does 'computer' written in leetspeak?), "contains" (c10n+41n5 - why it has to have number 1 before the 0?), "among" (4m10n9 - there is still number 1), "phase" (ph4c3 - replace 'c' with 's' or '5'), etc. Overall, it is an interesting way of writing and amazing brain exercise. 056.20180727

  • Drowning in Plain Sight ...A Survivor’s Story on Aug. 03, 2018

Drowning in Plain Sight: A Survivor’s Story by Len Parsons In this book, I've found three important gems. First, the gem of Light (L). It gives us a better view of life. If you are facing difficulties in life, this book is for you. You may not see direct or immediate answer to your problems, at least it will give you hope. Second, the gem of Encouragement (E). It encourages us to always wear our life jacket to stay safe. This life jacket that we must have is our faith in God. We must wear it at all times. Lastly, the gem of Nourishment (N). It nurtures our spiritual life keeping us away from "Drowning in Plain Sight". 65

  • Close Encounters with Space to Remember on Sep. 01, 2018

Close Encounters with Space to Remember by Katie Crawford "Close Encounters with Space to Remember" is a collection of three short stories. The title has been derived from the three stories. What a witty mind. Close Encounters with the Grocery Kind - a humorous story avoiding someone who was once a part of the same class in their school. It was indeed a short but nice story. Space to Breathe - is about the life of teenagers making independent decisions and parents trusting their teens, a transition of treating children as young adults and not as kids anymore. A Thanksgiving to Remember - It was a thanksgiving day when Robert was invited by the FBI for the information he knew about the map and the boarding pass. The secret behind the map and the boarding pass is not yet revealed in the story. A continuation of the story is worth waiting for. To conclude, all three stories are impressive and exceptional. 85

  • Awoken - A Short Story on Sep. 01, 2018

Awoken: A Short Story by Andrew Ditch I found it extraordinary but I spotted two errors throughout the story particularly in chapters 1 and 5. In chapter 1, I think the conversation between Adrian and Jerry that tells “Where am I?” I asked. “Was I in an accident?” should have been written as “Where am I?” Jerry asked. “Was I in an accident?” since the story was told in the third person point of view. In chapter 5, the line "Someone else had come into his life and taken it form him." should have been written as "Someone else had come into his life and taken it from him." However, errors are forgivable and fixable. Thus, I would still give a good rating for this one of a kind story. 84
