I was an honours student and completed two and a half years of his Mining Diploma with distinction. I also did my compulsory military training and completed a Parachute Course, a Lieutenants Course, and Training in Russian Weaponry. Then in 1991 tragedy struck. We were extinguishing a fire on a neighbouring farm; unaware of a stash of dynamite that laid buried on that farm. The dynamite exploded and the accident left me blind for life.
